Anyone have an infant with an intestinal allergy but tested negative to the IGE allergy(most common)?
HI-the world of allergic children can be complex to say the least. You can have conditions such as eosinophilic esophagitis that are often not caused by IgE allergies-they can present with failure to thrive etc. Be very wary of starting any foods that are not approved by your allergist/gastroenterologist-they really need to be determining what your child is having. A formula such as elcare will give him all the nutrients he needs-it is in a pre-digested form that makes it easy to absorb (and is essentially non allergenic). To start on food without medical input could have devastating effects on your son-increased loss of weight due to allergic reaction/diarrhoea etc.
If you are worried about his weight you need to speak with his Dr. again-if they are not worried you should not be. Has your son been assessed by an allergist/gastroenterologist-perhaps you need a referral to one of these to see what you are dealing with allergy wise. Try to see if they can give you a 'name' for his condition-you may find theres many support groups out there with people in the same boat.
one of my children has EE-for many children with this they present with failure to thrive-my son was actually diagnosed at 5years-he has no outward signs of allergy but very obvious damage internally from the allergic response. In children as young as yours IgE testing can be very inaccurate. Delayed allergies are sometimes tested by patch testing(once again not an exact science but it gives the drs. a starting point-it is a recognised test for eosinophilic conditions)
