I can't recommend any specific brands or types, but here are some things to avoid in a hot dog if you're health conscious (read the label..)
- Preservatives such as sodium nitrite. This specific preservative has been linked to certain cancers. It's a common ingredient in many prepared meats sold in supermarkets, so look out for it.
- Trans fats - not healthy. If the package says it's got trans fats, then don't buy it.
- Saturated fats - the less, the better.
- Also watch out for sodium (salt) content - as meats are often loaded with way too much of it.
