Daughter has a milk allergy. Does anyone have a suggestion on the Neocate. Is it worth paying all that money?
My son was born a premie (3lbs), I tried to brest feed but was only sucessul for a few weeks, I went home he stayed in the hospital. I would pump my breast milk and freeze it then take it to the hospital but he wasn't drinking enough so the dr. put him on a formular. This didn't agree with him so he was swithed to a soy based formular. The results enabled my son to now be 24 years old and 220 lbs. Saying all that to say this If the Dr. requests this there must be a reason. Plus ask the hosp. social worker if there is a program which will either help supply or offset the cost.Silk Milk is delicious, if she's younger you can add cereal or thick-it to it to thicken it upI would try soy formula. My daughter had a milk allergy until about a month ago and she just turned nine. She was born with her allergy. She used to projectile vomit, have diarrhea, a rash on her face, and hives...big ones. She was on soy formula until the age of eighteen months, and then drank soy milk. See first if she can tollerate soy formula. Neocate is very expensive, and I think should be used as a last resort.
A comment for the first answer....if Lactaid milk worked for that child than she was not allergic, she was intollerant. There is a huge difference. Lactaid milk is just cow's milk with the lactase enzyme added. If a child is truly allergic like mine was, then Lactaid milk will still cause a reaction because it is the protein...casein...that most children are allergic to.
